Abstract

Considering the importance of regional planning in economic development programs, especially general land use policies and the need to decentralize economic activities in different regions, it is necessary to identify the capabilities of different regions of the country in this regard.

Comparative advantage theory is of first rate significance for discovering the capabilities and talents of regions in line with the objectives of regional planning. In this regard, this study seeks to discover the comparative advantages in different economic sectors of the Sistan and Baluchestan province using the comparative advantage index developed by Balassa in 2021.

The research method in this study is descriptive-analytic based on documentary study. The results indicate that the education sector with 2.49 percent has the highest comparative advantage among the major economic sectors and the second place goes to agriculture, hunting and forestry and fishing with 2.33 percent. Therefore, national and regional planners and policy makers should take steps to increase production and employment in the province, taking into account these leading activities.
